Building on steep slopes disturbs fragile land, and may result in increased erosion. The Municipality is taking steps to ensure public safety and to help prevent the erosion of hillsides.
The Steep Slopes Development Permit Area has been an ongoing project for the Municipality and a public hearing was held in the Spring of 2007 on a similar development permit area. That project was halted due to deficiencies in the mapping that would accompany the bylaws and define the development permit area. Since then the
Municipality has invested in a far more
accurate data set for the Island. |

With that data set a new map has been generated for the development permit area. The draft map and the accompanying draft bylaws are provided here for your information. There will be additional public engagement on this project when it proceeds to Council.
