Appointments of Manager of Development & Operations and Island Community Planner
It is with great pleasure that I announce appointments to the following positions within Bowen Island Municipality (BIM):
Manager of Development & Operations:
This is a new position that merges two previous senior management positions – the Director of Planning and the Director of Engineering. As a result, the Manager of Development & Operations will assume responsibility for both the Planning and Public Works departments. This model will provide an integrated and cost effective approach to the community’s planning and engineering needs.
Keith Wahlstrom, P.Eng, has been hired as our new Manager of Development & Operations. Keith has spent his career in municipal engineering including a comparable role with the City of Vernon. These experiences have provided him with a solid understanding of how varied the requirements of a municipality are and how important it is that all departments work together for a municipality to be successful. He has indicated that he is looking forward to bringing his aptitude and experience to this interesting and challenging job.
Island Community Planner:
After review, BIM’s Planning Department has been restructured. We are moving back to the model established when BIM hired its first planner in 2002 – one planner on staff in the role of Island Community Planner. This position will be a direct report to our new Manager of Development & Operations.
Annie Dempster will be joining BIM as the Island Community Planner. Annie has a Bachelor of Planning degree (Northern and Rural Community Planning) from the University of Northern British Columbia and comes to us from the Fraser Valley Regional District. Along with her rural planning experience, she brings a delightful enthusiasm and passion for community planning.
Annie Dempster begins her new role at BIM on Monday, August 27th. Keith Wahlstrom’s start date is Monday, September 10th. They are both looking forward to not only joining BIM as staff but as community members along with their families.
