We would like to advise the public that, while Bowen Island Municipality does not have jurisdiction or authority over wildlife, municipal staff has been actively communicating with the Conservation Services Office (Ministry of the Environment) since the first reported bear sighting on Monday, May 17th (Adams Road). All reported sightings – including photographs – received at BIM have been then forwarded to the Conservation Officer.
In our continuing effort to have the bear re-located – safely and humanely -- to a more suitable environment, and to ensure public safety, we invite the public to contact the Conservation Services Office as well. The Conservation Office Call Centre’s phone number is 1-877-952-7277. They can be contacted via email at: Conservation.Officer.Service@gov.bc.ca.
We will report further any new developments on this situation, as and when they arise. If you would like any further information, we invite you to contact the Municipal Hall at (604) 947-4255 (ask for Lisa).
