Immigrated from Germany in 1978. Bowen resident since 1980, with wife and three children.
Professional background: originally farming, then real estate and real estate development.
Strong commitment to social, environmental, and economic sustainability principles and the Islands Trust mandate with a focus on slow, organic growth. Some people call me a “visionary” and “community builder.” My own assessment is more modest.
Projects:
1. Cates Hill (ongoing since 1989). Single family residential homes, residential/ commercial complex Village Square, first and only affordable rental complex (12 units). Construction of two Island Pacific Schools (first one now Municipal offices), Cates Hill Chapel, Rivendell Retreat, Tir-na-nOg Theatre School, first sewage treatment plant in Snug Cove.
2. Cowan Point (ongoing since 2000). Major dam construction to raise lake level, major water filtration and treatment plant, extensive road and infrastructure network Highlands Estates to Seymour Bay and beyond.
Substantial corporate donations and land dedications to the Municipality and Foundations to support community building efforts, including public golf course, Island Pacific School, Cates Hill Chapel, Rivendell Retreat, 70+ acres of parks.
Memberships: Chamber of Commerce (once President). Bowen Island Taxpayer Association. Committee member of Cove Bay Water System since early 1990s and Snug Cove Sewer System since 1999. Served on numerous planning committees for Snug Cove starting in 1981. Board member of Seymour Bay Foundation and Rivendell Foundation.
As I’ve talked with Bowen Islanders, over 90% agree about these issues: DO SOMETHING about Snug Cove, affordable housing, and community facilities. That’s why I’m running for Council.
