Resident Electors
Pursuant to Section 56(4) of the Local Government Act, the opportunity for advance elector registration closed on September 27, 2011.
If you have not yet registered, please contact election officials at Bowen Island Municipality directly at bim@bimbc.ca or (604) 947-4255 for assistance.
You may vote in the Bowen Island Municipal election as a resident elector if you:
- Are a Canadian citizen; AND
- Are, or will be, 18 years of age or more on General Voting day (November 19, 2011); AND
- Have lived in BC for at least 6 months (since May 17, 2011) prior to registration and have lived in or owned property on Bowen Island for at least 30 days (by October 19, 2011) prior to registration; AND
- Are not disqualified from voting by the Local Government Act or any other Act.
If you meet all of the above requirements you can vote and it does not matter whether you rent or own your home.
If you are a resident elector, have met all the requirements and voted in the previous provincial election, your name should automatically be on the voters' list that is provided by Elections BC to Bowen Island Municipality for use in the 2011 November municipal elections.
If you did not vote in the recent provincial election and meet all the requirements, you can still vote in the Bowen Island Municipality elections. You may register on the day you vote -- at either the advance voting opportunity or on general voting day.
When registering at the time of voting, you will be required to provide two pieces of identification containing your name and address (at least one with a signature). If you do not have documentation showing residency, then two pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) are still required and you must then make a solemn declaration as to your residency.
Samples of acceptable ID include Canadian Passport, BC Drivers Licence, BC ID Card, BC Care Card, Birth Certificate, Canadian Citizenship Card, Property Tax Notice, utility bill.
