Allow me to rephrase a provincial government slogan, “Bowen Island is the best place on earth”, and so I am running for Council to help ensure that statement stays true.
I have been working in the IT industry for 30+ years, and there has been a long standing joke: “We gave them what they asked for, but it isn't what they wanted”.
To ensure that quip never reflected any of my projects, an inclusive and comprehensive dialogue was always undertaken with active and non active stakeholders.
It is that same type of dialogue that a municipal councillor requires to effectively make decisions that reflect the very people they are working for.
It is fine to talk and plan about the growth and improvement of Bowen, but we can't forget that Bowen is not only about trees and buildings but people as well.
The rural nature of Bowen is an endearing quality and is something we should relish as much as possible.
Sustainability can be a fundamental element to help Bowen grow and develop, which means social and economic factors are just as important as environmental, and all need to be considered equally.
The enlightenment of a society can be based on its willingness to compromise, and while it is the responsibility of individuals, a government can play an important and integral part of any facilitation.
