King Edward Bay Water System

The Municipality received an application from the King Edward Bay Development Corporation for the subdivision of land at “District Lot 1545, Group 1, New Westminster District, except portions in explanatory Plan 3489 and Plan 13464 (Parcel Identifier 015-940-837)”.  The development called for the establishment of a water system to service the subdivision, for which approximately 40 lots have been subdivided, with potential for a further approximately 40 lots in the future.

The developer did not wish to operate the water system as a private utility and petitioned the Municipality to establish a Local Area Service for the provision of water, and the operation and maintenance of all related water system infrastructure.  The administration and fees will be arranged similar to the other six existing municipal water system Local Area Services (LAS).

The initial subdivision was completed in late 2007, and the water system was turned over to the Municipality.

Merging Neighbouring Water Systems

The Public Works Superintendent provided a report on the “Options of Operating and Administering Neighbouring Water System on Bowen Island’s West Side”.  The report outlines the pros and cons of creating a new municipally-owned local area service at King Edward Bay, and options for possible future amalgamation of the Blue Water Park, Bowen Bay and King Edward Bay water systems.

The Municipality therefore intends to merge the water system operations, and is currently designing and appolying for construction of the interconnections.
