- Climate change;
- Restrictions in the supply of fossil fuels, especially oil - leading to increases in costs;
- Increased water demands;
- Increased pressures on natural ecological systems;
- Increased pressures on foreign food supplies;
- Changes in economic patterns and stability;
- Aging and demographic change; and
- Other changes that might not be anticipated.
Rethinking how we live is a big part in moving towards a more sustainable future. Bowen Island Municipality is exploring ways to become more sustainable by planning for more comprehensive land use patterns, supporting more innovative forms of development and public infrastructure designs, advancing ecological and environmental initiatives, as well as encouraging alternative modes of transportation. The Municipality also encourages community driven initiatives like the Recycling Depot, Compost Bowen, and events like BC Power Smart Community Challenge.
