The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) is appointed by and reports to Bowen Island Municipal Council. The CAO oversees the overall administration of the Municipality, its officers and employees. In addition, the CAO is charged with keeping Council up to date on corporate matters, advising Council on policy and other matters and ensuring that Council policy is implemented. The CAO also leads the senior management team and sets the overall strategic direction for short and long term administrative goals.
The Administration Department is responsible for providing administrative support to Council through agenda preparation, the recording of official minutes, the administration and certification of Municipal bylaws, website design/administration and the execution of all legal documents on behalf of the Municipality. The Corporate Officer acts as the Clerk, Freedom of Information Coordinator and Human Resources Manager for the Municipality.
In addition, the Corporate Officer is responsible for municipal and Islands Trust elections, by-elections and referendums. This department also manages and preserves all Council, Committee, and corporate records through a records management program.
The Corporate Office is the initial contact for members of the community wishing to access the administration and government on a wide variety of issues. The Corporate Office also processes requests for the release of information under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
