Davies Orchard decision reached

Metro Vancouver will invest an estimated $2.1 million in the revitalization of Davies Orchard.

At its meeting on November 24, 2017, the Metro Vancouver Board voted unanimously to support Concept 2:  Heritage Focus, and directed Metro staff to proceed with detailed design and implementation.

This option retains and restores six heritage cottages in Davies Orchard. The plan includes amenities like bookable public space, a nature trail and stewardship area, a nature experience area, a picnic shelter and seating, better access for seniors, and a potential electric vehicle charging station. Metro staff will work with local experts on development of interpretive displays, orchard expansion, and cottage rebuilding.

Metro director and municipal councillor Maureen Nicholson acknowledged that this project is an emotional issue for some Islanders. “This outcome is a compromise, and it’s also a gift to our community and the region. I’m pleased that Metro Vancouver has assumed greater responsibility for its property in the heart of our village.”
