SHAW CABLE CONSTRUCTION

Horizontal Directional Drilling at Cape Roger Curtis Pebble Beach

Horizontal directional drilling is the process of installing conduit underground without intrusive excavation or destabilization of existing slopes. This method of installation was specifically selected for this site to ensure minimum disruption to the existing topography and vegetation. Shaw is working with Bowen Island Municipality to minimize the visual impact of this infrastructure.

Cardena Drive Conduit and Manhole Installation

It has been determined that the most practical method of installation for conduit at this location is a narrow trench. This phase of the installation will be completed without excavation of the shoreline below the Natural Boundary. The entire trench will be backfilled and compacted with native material. The surfaces will then be restored using erosion prevention materials.

If you have any questions please contact SHAW directly at 604 250 2860 or by email to tim.hausch@shaw.ca.

Beach closures and advisories

Bowen Island Municipality is strongly advising owners of vessels moored in Mannion Bay to remove their boats from the bay for the remainder of the winter season. Mannion Bay is not a safe moorage area at this time.

Winter weather conditions in Howe Sound vary greatly from year to year. This year we have seen wind patterns shift from strong Squamish to equally strong south-easterlies. As they change course, very strong and sustained winds blow directly into Mannion Bay, often accompanied by torrential rainfall.

There have been five incidents in recent weeks that have resulted in sunken boats and over $25,000 in losses to the owners of the vessels. So far this season, Bowen Island Municipality has spent about $11,000 on mitigating the environmental impacts of boats in the bay.
