Snug Cove Planning

This webpage is currently under construction

The Snug Cove village is both the gateway and the heart of the community. The village area has a range local businesses and many public services such as the public library, 911 services, as well as access to transit and ferry services.

There have been several OCP policies and plans done in the last 10 years to address the issues, challenges, and opportunities pertaining to the Snug Cove. Implementation of existing policies and plans has been slow as there are many opposing interests and fragmented jurisdictions in the Snug Cove area.

Planning Initiatives

·       The Snug Cove Village Plan: A Plan to Guide Change in Snug Cove 2005

     (OCP Amendment - Bylaw No. 137, 2004)

·       Reshaping Snug Cove: A Framework for taking Action: The Snug Cove Action Plan 2006  The Snug Cove Action Plan is a key initiative within Council's 2006 Strategic Plan.

·       The Snug Cove Master Plan 2008 (received as information)

·       Snug Cove Design Guidelines (Land Use Bylaw No. 57, 2002 - Schedule E)

There are three key Working Groups dealing with inter-related issues pertaining to Snug Cove.

1.   The Surplus Lands "The Community Lands" Working Group (SLWG)

The task of the SLWG includes examining options for the allocation and cost recovery of the Community Lands.

2.   The Transportation Working Group (TWG)

The task of the TWG is to review existing literature relating to transportation on Bowen Island, specifically with reference to ferry marshalling and ferry capacity. The objective is to consolidate the key elements of the reports and supporting information, and to organize them into a matrix that will assist in guiding Council and the community through a decision-making process.

3.   The Civic Facilities Working Group (CFWG)

The task of the CFWG is to provide recommendations to Council on the design and location of buildings for civic facilities.  The future location of civic facilities will be in Snug Cove and/or on the Community Lands.
